“I mostly employ negative space painting over textured layers of acrylic paint where the forms of organic arrangements and florals are slowly revealed. Whilst they are quirky and somewhat abstract, my application is deliberate and finely detailed.”

About Nikki Ellis.

I grew up in a country town in East Gippsland in Victoria. As a child I have happy memories of roaming freely in the nearby fields and paddocks with my siblings, collecting grasses and flowers and feeling as close to nature as the outdoors would allow. I was infatuated with my Aunty Lyn- an accomplished artist and art teacher who indulged us with creative afternoons of painting and batik making, where I believe my inner creative was exposed and nurtured.

Since then I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating, refurbishing, decorating or painting something!

I have lived in Melbourne most of my adult life, from the beautiful Dandenong ranges to the beaches of Mornington Peninsula.

Accompanying my background in Interior Decorating and Visual Merchandising within the furniture, interiors and homewares Industry, my large-scale ‘decorator art’ has been displayed and sold in furniture stores throughout Melbourne and Sydney for over 25 years.

Now calling MALENY home, on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, I am surrounded dually by ‘beautiful creatives’ and ‘creative beauty’!

My works, at home in modern interiors, are more than a subtle reflection of my passion for interior design. They disclose a fascination with colour and uniformity of design in nature; patterns replicated in botanicals, in sea and on land. The same patterns that we reproduce in our home embellishments. I often have these in mind when I paint. For instance, I can see my mini artworks sitting in creative vignettes on shelving or furniture or in groupings on the wall.

I mostly employ negative space painting over textured layers of acrylic paint where the forms of organic arrangements and florals are slowly revealed. Whilst they are quirky and somewhat abstract, my application is deliberate and finely detailed.

’these are so joyful! Your plants look really happy, like they are loving life’’

A perfect description and compliment of my work!
